Day 79 - Wandering and spending $$$

So today was VERY similar to yesterday, just didn't know what I wanted to do...

So I got up and basically just went wandering.

I walked kind of everywhere and along the way I bought some souvenirs and had lunch (yes once again Italian) had some gelato, and sat by the river for a while.

There isn't much to mention for the day, as I really just did nothing but wander around and take a few pictures.

I got back to the hostel later that day, and the girl in my room was back, so we chatted for a while and watched some funny youtube videos LOL Bouncy ball accidents. Then we hung out for a while, and the had dinner later in the restaurant at the hostel. It wasn't awesome, but it was ok because I had a burger and not Italian food. lol

Things that made me happy today; Picking up some souvenirs that I think will make some people really happy.

Things that made me sad today; Knowing that I have another whole day to fill tomorrow...

Day 78 - Bit bored...

So today I slept in ULTRA late and got up but didn't really do much. I chatted to home for a little while.

I have decided I don't want to go to any of the museums or churches here. They're all either expensive, or you have to wait for ages. So that's given me a lot of free time.

I did end up going out pretty late in the day. I decided to go have a wander and get some things I needed like toiletries and things that I'm just starting to run out of.

So after that I went and got some brunch. Eggs on toast, not very Italian but I'm ok with that!

It was a pretty crappy day so I didn't really feel like going on a huge walk or anything. I sat in a park for a while, then headed back to the hostel.

One of the girls in my room was going to get some Sushi, so I went with her, but they were closed for Siesta. It always ruins everything.... So I came back o the hostel and decided to have a Sauna! Yep, there's a sauna here. It was awesome. very relaxing. I've always liked saunas.

So after that I was meant to meet the couple again to go to dinner. Totes got stood up, but never mind. We decided to go to the sushi place, and met Justine and Katie, the girls I met in Rome. So they came to dinner with me, and we got takeaway sushi, and then we went and sat up on the terrace to eat it.

Was a pretty cool day, even though I didn't do much.

Things that made me happy today; The sauna was probably the best part of the day lol.

Things that made me sad today; Getting stoop up LOL

Day 77 - Foooooood

So today I woke up kind of earlyish and went on yet another tour that I booked.

This one was a food and wine tour = happy Bo.

We started by walking to the markets, and just generally walking around and speaking about Tuscan food, it's origins and what traditional Tuscan dishes are. Basic history of Tuscan cuisine.

THEN! The good part came. We got to taste some cool Tuscan things. First we had garlic (uncooked cloves) that are marinated in a certain type of white wine, and you can totally just eat the whole clove raw, tastes kind of pickled. It's REALLY good. Then we had olives done the same way, it was better than a normal olive, but I'm not a fan of them anyway.

Then REAL Parmigiano Regiano, and we tasted that with first a sweet jam, and then with a spicy jam (the guy called it a mustard? lol) Then we got to taste it with real aged balsamic vinegar. OOOhhhhhhhh it was SOOOOOOOO good. I wass going to buy a bottle but it was really expensive :S

Then we go to try real Chianti wine. It actually wasn't bad, but I'm really not a wine person.

So everything we tasted is procted with a DOP which is basically a stamp of approval authenticating the products as coming from the correct regions.

After this I decided to wander around for a while, and I stumbled into a leather market. I bartered and bought some souvenirs. Then I happened to run into a couple from busabout Jenna and Scott. They are really nice and I ended up hanging out with them for the rest of the day.

We just wandered around, looked at some leather, had some awesome gelato. I had banana and raspberry, and they both tasted like the fruit had just been frozen and mashed, soooo yum.

We wandered down to the river, and had a bit of a look, then we walked back to the hostel.

We decided to meet up in a few hours to go sit on the terrace room of the building. So we met up and watched the sun set over Florence, the view from the roof is AMAZING. They rope it off, so I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to go up there... lol But we did and I have been back every night.

After that we went out to dinner. We TRIED to find somewhere that wasn't Italian, but we struggled... so we found an Italian place that had a trip adviser sticker, so we went it. it was ok... really busy, and the food wasn't AWESOME. i think my chicken wasn't cooked properly. But it was ok, and cheap for what we got.

We all just went back to the hostel after that. Was a pretty good day.

Things that made me happy today; Authentic parmigiano Regiano. Lived out one of Dad's bucket list items there.

Things that made me sad today; Not finding anything that wasn't Italian.... I'm very over Italian food. Lol yes stone me to death for saying that now.

Day 76 - To Firenze!

So today I woke up and got up and got to get the FUCK out of the Rome camping site, which I was super happy about.

It was a bus day, so not much to say about the travel on the bus.

Once I arrived in Florence I settled into my room, and met some girls, then I went on a tour I had booked which was kind of just an introduction to Florence.

The guide took us to around Florence, and showed us where we could see the David and how to book tickets all useful kind of stuff and told us a little history.

After this we went to a leather demonstration, where they showed us how they make leather jewelery boxes, and how to tell real leather from fake (which is basically impossible now anyway lol) After this we went to dinner (which was all included in the price of the tour) first course we got some bruschetta, then second was some Pasta, a pesto one and a chilli tomato one (Italians don't really know how to do spice though lol) and then third course I got the meat dish, although the meat was pretty tough. Then fourth course was then vanilla gelati with chocolate syrup. Was an ok dinner with cool company and decent conversation lol.

After that I walked home with a few girls from dinner, and they were going to go drinking, but I decided to go for a drink, but I was SOOO exhausted I went and had a shower and went to bed.

Things that made me happy today; The most delicious Pesto ever!

Things that made me sad today; The price of Leather :S

Day 75 - Angry Bo

So I woke up this morning and had to check out because I had booked a cabin for that last night instead of a tent. So I had to get up and check out and pay, but I forgot to take money, so I went back to the tent and just went back later lol.

So I didn't do much that day because the wi-fi was down, and they close the internet cafe between 12-4pm...

I ended up checking into my new room, a 'shared' cabin, and I went and got some snacks from the supermarket, and had a little bit of food. Then I had a shower and washed my hair and had a nap. I thought it was weird when I went into the room, because the bottom single bed was pushed next to the bottom bunk bed? thought I was just in with a couple so whatever.

After my nap, I went and hung out with Haylee and Steph for a little while, then I went back to the cabin around 9pm to go to bed.

I was just laying in bed minding my own business and my new roomates come in. They were Romanian, and the woman looks at me and goes "what are you doing here?" I'm like "um.... sleep?" She gets all pissed off and tried to explain that they booked a rom for two and I'm all "well you obviously didn't?"

Well, turns out they did. The hostel gave me the wrong key... So some guy comes up to the room like 10 minutes later in a golf buggie and is like "they need you at reception" So I go down in my PJ's, and they said "Oh we can give you a 10% discount" "well, I've already paid" "oh.. well we can't then"

MAN I was pissed!! So I went back to the room, packed up all my shit like an itiot (after completely invading these people's person space) and moved rooms.

Once I had done that I realised just how pissed off I was, so I went back to reception and DEMANDED my money back. They were so reluctant, they were going to give me 10%, but I wouldn't take it, and they eventually did give me the money back for that night.

Anyway, I'm totally naming and shaming, Plus camping Roma totally gave me bed bugs and fucked me around SOOOOOO badly, 2 stars (out of 100) OH and there were rats everywhere!

Day 74 - Colosseum and bed bugs...

So today, myself and a guy who was in my tent named Ian decided to get up and go do the Colosseum tour.

We missioned to the Colosseum and lined up for a little while, but began the tour pretty much straight away.

It was AWESOME! The guide took us underneath in the part where all the props and animals were held, and then we got to walk across the stage (that’s been re-built) then we got to go to the highest level. She also told us a lot about the history and how they used to make things work. Like that they had pulley systems and elevators and trap doors for props and animals to jump out of. SO AWESOME!

After the our we hung around there for a little while, then we went out to lunch, where I had the worst service ever, and waited so long for my (incorrect) food I didn’t even end up eating there…

After, we basically just wandered around the city, I didn’t end up eating until like 6pm that day (after only having eaten a banana that morning :S) but I was ok.

This is the part where the day got shit. On the train home, my legs were really itchy, so I inspected to find not one mozzie bite, not two, but like 40 (obviously bed bugs again, not mozzie bites like I previously thought) So I bought some cream at the bus stop, and when we got back to the camping site, Ian and I demanded to change rooms. I had to pull a bit of a ‘mum’ to get them to give me money for laundry too. The guy came in and ‘inspected’ my sheets and said there was nothing there, and I lost my temper a little…

Anywhoo, after I did bully them into giving me money, I had to do my laundry at like 10.30pm, (because I had done ALL my washing the day before, laid it out on my bed to fold it, then out it back into my backpack, so EVERYTHING could have been infested) And I had to wait for 2 hours while my washing and drying was complete while wearing a shitty thin summer tank top dress that I was planning to throw away anyway… (It’s getting pretty cold here at night, I was freeeeeeezing!)

So after I did that, I moved tents into Haylee and Steph’s tent totally by co-incidence, then bought a can of Insecticide and fumigated my bag and all of my other belongings with about half a can of the stuff. Then had a shower and scrubbed myself raw…

I didn’t sleep until about 1am…

It started out a GREAT day, but turned really shitty pretty quickly…

Things that made me happy today; The Colosseum, by far my favourite site that I’ve seen in Europe.

Things that made me sad today; Well… need I even mention it again?

Day 73 - Washing day

So today I woke up in a shit mood because I slept like crap the night before I think.

Everyone decided they were going out, but I was tired and bothered, so I stayed at the campsite and did washing.

I did agree to meet up with Haylee, Steph and their two friends later that night in town to go out to dinner, so I met them at a metro stop, and we searched for a restaurant that the boys had heard about, but they didn't open until 7.30 (which was like an hour) so we went somewhere else and had great food. Then we had good gelati on the way home.

Pretty boring day for you to read about...

Things that made me happy today; Good food, clean washing.

Things that made me sad today; Being in a shitty mood all day.
