So today was my last day in Salzburg. I forgot the day before, but the bus didn’t come until like 2pm… So because I forgot, I got up way too early, and had to waste a LOT of time.
I woke up feeling a bit more sick than yesterday, and pretty sure that whatever kind of infection I was sick with spread pretty badly to my sinuses, so I walked to the chemist, but it was shut because it was a Sunday (it’s really weird how you lose sense of what day it is completely…)
So I just hung around the hostel and chatted to home before the bus came, which it eventually did, and took me to Munich.
So, on the bus, EVERYONE was talking about Oktoberfest, of course. I have to say I wasn’t super excited. I kind of just expected it would be SUPER expensive, and that’s not overly appealing to me.
ALL the girls on the bus were talking about their dirndl’s (the dresses all the girls wear) which got me a little eager to try to find one myself (hopefully cheap) so when I got to the hostel, I went looking for one. I met a couple of girls from my hostel looking for dressed too. I ended up not buying one, because I couldn’t find one cheaper than 50 Euro… and I was only going to Oktober fest for a day or so, and it wouldn’t have fitted in my bag to take home anyway… So I didn’t waste the money. In hindsight, glad I didn’t. I still had heaps of fun not dressed.
Anyway, the girls I met dress shopping invited me to go with them to the festival that night. So I headed over with them at about 7pm.
It was SOOOOO much fun. There were rides and food stands EVERYWHERE! We went to the Paulsaner beer tent and hung out for a few hours.
Oktoberfest is NUTS! EVERYONE just stands on tables and sings and dances and spills beer. Everyone is super drunk and VERY friendly (some men get a bit too friendly if you know what I mean…) but overall it’s one of the best atmospheres I’ve experienced at any kind of festival I’ve been to.
We ended up having two steins each (which might not sound like a lot, but I promise it is!) Then we decided it would be a great idea to go on some rides. I handled it all well, but some of the other girls… not so much lol. I had a banana covered in chocolate for dinner, not so healthy but DELICIOUS!
We all headed home around 12, and I basically just went straight to sleep after drunkenly making my bed and trying to be quiet as to not wake anyone up (which worked anyway, because everyone in my room was passed out drunk)
Overall, pretty sweet day!
Things that made me happy today; Totally friendly awesome atmosphere in the beer tents!
Things that made me sad today; Spanish guys getting a bit too… grabby.
