Day 64 - Totes toga

So today was a bus day from Munich to Venice. Not very exciting.

We got into Venice around 5pm. I'm staying at a camping grounds here in a tent. But it had bunk beds and everything inside, and a door that locks lol. It's not completely roughing it. Although I have seen some pretty scary bugs.

I organised dinner with some girls from my bus at the camping ground restaurant, but I ran into Sarah (Shorty) and Megan and ended up having dinner with them instead. The dinner was pretty rank half cold lasagna... I was dissapoint...

Megan and Shorty had heard about a toga party at the camping site, soooooo we got super ready and ended up going. I'd just like to add in here, that the three of us easily had the best and most traditional styled togas. We totally rocked it with the braids in our hair and Megan and Shorty had leafs too, I hope there are some good pics, I liked my toga. Everyone was totes jelly.

The party ended up actually being pretty awesome. Some guy from busabout ended up DJing, and we just danced and drank for hours. The drinks were pretty cheap, but they use a card system that you top up with money, basically so there so no cash on the grounds. Megan thought they were ripping her off which kind of sucked...

I ended up having a bit of a D&M with Megan and staying in Shorty and Megan's room because they had a third bed in their room that was kind of like for a kid. Megan slept in there and said it felt like a cradle hahaha.

It was actually a pretty good day because of the toga party.

Things that made me happy today; Learning how to create a toga with NO saftey pins at all, AND having it stay on pretty well all night while dancing.

Things that made me sad today; Having too much time on the bus to think about home :(

Day 63 - Paragliding!!!

So today I had to get up early once again to go on a tour to Castle.

I got breakfast, then caught the coach for about 2 hours to the castle (it was a pretty huge tour group of about 45 people unfortunately…)

On the way there, the guide explained that we could go paragliding if we wanted to, because the weather has been so good this week.

So I made a split decision, and decided I wanted to do it.

SOOOOO happy I did. It was awesome. I’ll admit, I’m not a real pansy when it comes to those kinds of things, I haven’t really had the opportunity to do a lot, but it doesn’t really scare me. However, running straight off the edge of a cliff… Yeah, little intimidating. But so worth it. The views were amazing, we went STRAIGHT through the middle of a cloud, and even the guide I went up with said that weather conditions like this almost NEVER happen, that its like maybe 3 times a year that they get days that clear. So I was pretty lucky.

After this, the bus took us back into town to continue the tour. They gave us a choice wether to hike up to the castle (took about 45 minutes, up a steep hill) or to catch a bus… I was the only person out of 45 that took the bus… There were like OLD people that hiked… But fuck it, I was still way hungover, I regret nothing.

So the bus didn’t take too long, lol. I got up and walked around and went to Mary’s bridge, which is where you get the best view of the castle. I then met up with the group and did the tour inside the castle. It’s a cool tour, pretty short, because only like 16 of the 60 rooms are actually finished. The tour guide was really good, he was super knowledgeable. I have a feeling he might have been slightly autistic, but I thought he did an awesome job.

After this we hiked back down the mountain, this wasn’t so bad though, as it was all downhill, and then we caught the bus back to Munich.

I had some dinner, and headed back to the hostel to pack my bag for the bus tomorrow.

Overall REALLY amazing day! Saw some really really cool stuff today.

Things that made me happy today; Ballsing up and jumping off a cliff.

Things that made me sad today; 60+ year olds having more energy to hike up a mountain than me…

Day 62 - OKTOBERFEST!!! Making Dad proud.

So this morning you can imagine I woke up a little worse for wear… but I did have my first FULL day of Oktoberfest planned with some cool people I met in Cesky. They all manned up and got there by like 10am… I decided to be a bit of a pansy, and didn’t show up until like 12.

Once again, I partied the day away, drank about 3 steins throughout the day (not so much no, but I paced myself well, and DIDN’T puke like soooo many other people) Today I partied mainly in the Hofbrau tent (I preferred the Paulsaner tent and beer though)

The day was mainly awesome apart from some pretty drunken idiots at points (including some of the guys I was hanging out with LOL) but you expect that at a beer festival right?

The food today was even better than the day before. I had sugar roasted walnuts, gelati, bratwurst (that I shared with Al and Lauren a couple of the girls I was hanging out with, Al seemed to REEEEALLY enjoy that lol) and I had strawberries in chocolate this time lol. I love food soooo much.

Towards the end of the night, I met two German girls, and one of them agreed to go on some more rides with me! Yay.

I headed home at about 8pm, so it was a pretty full day. I was fairly proud of my effort for someone who doesn’t really drink a lot.

Overall preeeetty awesome day!! Oktoberfest totally blew my expectations out of the water.

Things that made me happy today; pretty similar to yesterday, good company, awesome atmosphere

Things that made me sad today; Some people not being able to hold their alcohol…

Day 61 - Last day in Salzburg

So today was my last day in Salzburg. I forgot the day before, but the bus didn’t come until like 2pm… So because I forgot, I got up way too early, and had to waste a LOT of time.

I woke up feeling a bit more sick than yesterday, and pretty sure that whatever kind of infection I was sick with spread pretty badly to my sinuses, so I walked to the chemist, but it was shut because it was a Sunday (it’s really weird how you lose sense of what day it is completely…)

So I just hung around the hostel and chatted to home before the bus came, which it eventually did, and took me to Munich.

So, on the bus, EVERYONE was talking about Oktoberfest, of course. I have to say I wasn’t super excited. I kind of just expected it would be SUPER expensive, and that’s not overly appealing to me.

ALL the girls on the bus were talking about their dirndl’s (the dresses all the girls wear) which got me a little eager to try to find one myself (hopefully cheap) so when I got to the hostel, I went looking for one. I met a couple of girls from my hostel looking for dressed too. I ended up not buying one, because I couldn’t find one cheaper than 50 Euro… and I was only going to Oktober fest for a day or so, and it wouldn’t have fitted in my bag to take home anyway… So I didn’t waste the money. In hindsight, glad I didn’t. I still had heaps of fun not dressed.

Anyway, the girls I met dress shopping invited me to go with them to the festival that night. So I headed over with them at about 7pm.

It was SOOOOO much fun. There were rides and food stands EVERYWHERE! We went to the Paulsaner beer tent and hung out for a few hours.

Oktoberfest is NUTS! EVERYONE just stands on tables and sings and dances and spills beer. Everyone is super drunk and VERY friendly (some men get a bit too friendly if you know what I mean…) but overall it’s one of the best atmospheres I’ve experienced at any kind of festival I’ve been to.

We ended up having two steins each (which might not sound like a lot, but I promise it is!) Then we decided it would be a great idea to go on some rides. I handled it all well, but some of the other girls… not so much lol. I had a banana covered in chocolate for dinner, not so healthy but DELICIOUS!

We all headed home around 12, and I basically just went straight to sleep after drunkenly making my bed and trying to be quiet as to not wake anyone up (which worked anyway, because everyone in my room was passed out drunk)

Overall, pretty sweet day!

Things that made me happy today; Totally friendly awesome atmosphere in the beer tents!

Things that made me sad today; Spanish guys getting a bit too… grabby.

Day 60 - Salzburg beerfest

So today feeling a LOT better than previously (but still not 100%) I ventured out into Salzburg to see some things. I followed a route on a map that was given to us, and pretty quickly arrived in the middle of the town square and Salzburg’s very own beer festival.

It was pretty cool, there were people EVERYWHERE rides and food and carnies (smell like cabbage) it was very fun. I wandered around for AGES, just looking at the shops and rides. I ate heaps of food! The best thing was this little puff pastry thing, filled with a soft meringue mixture (almost like royal icing before it sets) it was soooo sweet I couldn’t even eat it all, but delicious.

After wandering around and eating for ages. I finally headed back to the hostel. I hung out for a while, as it was about a 4-5 hour wander I went on, and still being a little ill, it really took it out of me.

The Americans I went to dinner with the night before asked me to go out to dinner, but the girl with them just got bad news, and decided she wanted to get drunk. Because I had to catch a bus the next day, I politely declined…

I ended up having an awful meal at the restaurant in the hostel, it was schnitzel and potatoes, but everything had this funky taste about it… So I barely ate any, just drank a LOT of coke. I have to say, I BARELY drink Coke, or any soft drink at home, but I’ve been craving it sooooo badly over here?; I can’t figure out why?

Anyway…

Things that made me happy today; Lots of delicious food. (It always seems to be food right?)

Things that made me sad today; Still not being completely over being sick…

Day 57, 58 & 59 - Sickness

So I haven't updated in a while because I haven't been doing ANYTHING because I've been really sick :S but here is a really breif update just to keep it all up to date;

Day 57 - This was the bus day to Salzburg today. Not much happened, stopped in Gruenau, on the bus, and some people got off, it looked like Switzerland and I'm jealous that I didn't stop there.
Eventually got to Salzburg, actually pretty early, and dyed my hair.
Then went out to dinner at an Italian restaurant with Sarah and Megan.
Cruisy day, but I started feeling REALLY sick today.

Day 58 - Woke up soooo sick. Got ready and went to the pharmacy who gave me something similar to a cold and flu tablet, but it is different. Then I went to the supermarket and picked up lots of fruits and yogurts and juices.
Then I came back to the room and LITERALLY laid in bed for the rest of the day. Went to sleep at 7.30pm.
Shitty day

Day 59 - So today I woke up at 9.30 am, yep slept 14 hours.... Must have needed it. So I really did not do anything today. I did get up and do some washing, and then dry the washing.... and watched a bit of the sound of music with Megan for a little while (yeah, not a fan of that movie...) But other than that I sat in the hostel room all day doing nothing, just still trying to get better. I did meet some American guys who invited me out to dinner, and we went to the same Italian place for dinner.
Pretty boring day.

So yeah, that's been my last 3 days, sorry to disappoint... I am planning to go out today, hopefully I will have a much more exciting day to update about.

Day 56 - Japanese and Jersey Shore

So I woke up today at a pretty normal time, and STILL felt like crap... blerg....

The plans with most of the big group was to go see the castle. So, it ended up being myself, Ryan, Shorty, Megan, and Sherry, a guy from NY i met in my room that morning, lol I think everyone else had a pretty big night...

So we missioned out in the SHITTY weather to see the castle. Initially we took the metro the wrong way, but it was Ryan's fault for not giving me the map!

Anyway, we made it to the castle, and I bought the most stylish poncho ever, and had a crappy machine coffee (so much for Vienna being a coffee capitol??)

Anyway, we were all fucking freezing and wet... So when we walked past a horse and carriage that takes you around the castle. I convinced everyone it was an excellent idea.

It so was. The blankets were so worth the price alone. I have to be honest, we didn't see a LOT but we saw enough, and had a good chat while we were at it. Everyone found out about my blog also, told Ryan I would say hello to him on here (hi man)

After this we caught the metro back into the city center, Ryan went back to the hostel and Sherry went his own way, but Megan, Shorty and I went shopping.

I was feeling REALLY seedy by this stage, and we had some maccas (I also had my first thickshake in months!) It didn't really make me feel any better.

We missioned around for ages just finding things that everyone needed (like my new bright red lipstick for example...)

After this we went back to the hostel (where I discovered I was getting reeeeeeally sick..) and then all headed out to dinner later on, including Morgan, Emma and another girl that was in my room (her name escapes me)

We went out to Japanese. OH MY GOD!!! So what I needed. I had sushi and tempura, tasted like home.

After this we went back to the hostel and got them to put the projector on so we could watch a movie. Turns out they had barely any idea how to use it, and didn't have movie channels so we watched Teen mum and jersey shore instead (although Jersey Shore was dubbed over and didn't have subtitles, but I'd seen the episode before, so I let every in on what was happening anyway lol... yes I'm a looser)

I decided to go to bed not long into Jersey Shore, and had to say good by to Ryan, which sucked, he's one of the coolest people I've met traveling so far.

All in all, not the best day, but not the worst.

Things that made me happy today; Sushi!

Things that made me sad today; Feeling still hungover, but discovering I'm getting really sick :(

Day 55 - The hangover

Today was one of the worst days I’ve had in Europe.

I woke up with one of the worst hangovers of my life compounded by the fact I had awful ‘lady pains’ also. Almost completely self-inflicted so I expect little to no sympathy…

So I slept in until about 12. When I finally did get up, obviously everyone else had gone out to enjoy their day. So I showered and went to the market to get some food. I ended up having chicken teriyaki noodles and some orange juice.

I then headed back to one of the chill out areas and chatted to Paul for a while online. Then I went back to bed.

Emma woke me up around 7pm, and said everyone was going out to dinner so I got up, still VERY ill and went to dinner with this huge group of people. We ran into the other boys at the restaurant also, who gave me quite a bit of slack for my drunkness the night before... I had a garlic schnitzel, was delicious, and about a litre of coke.

After dinner we all headed back to the bar, everyone else got pretty drunk. I swear no alcohol touched my lips last night… The thought of it made me feel…. Erughsfhehfdl….

It was a really fun night. SOOOO many people paired up (I’m a lady and I won’t mention names, but you know who you are, and it’s still all about me :P)

I did have to say good bye to the Italian boys (but I will see them at Oktoberfest hopefully) as well as the other boys Rob, Pat and Josh which did really suck coz they were awesome dudes and I got along with them really well. But I’m confident I will catch up with them again (maybe even a trip to Sydney…?)

So not the best day… but good people make a big difference.

Things that made me happy today; Hm… not much, once again good company?

Things that made me sad today; Being so sick I ACTUALLY thought I might die…
